In a heartwarming initiative that started in 2012, the team behind Atiu Villas—Papa Roger, Mama Kura, and Jackey—have accumulated a total of $14,300.70 for the Atiu Villas Tourist Dividend, since 2022 right through to Friday 01 December. The idea involved setting aside $5 a day/night from every guest's payment, with the intention of giving back to the local community of Atiu. The funds collected have been shared equally among individuals in Atiu who have not been financially involved in the tourism industry, recognizing them as the true hosts who contribute to making visitors' time in Atiu truly memorable. The Tourist Dividend serves as a means of acknowledging the invaluable role played by the local community in enhancing the experience of guests. This remarkable effort showcases a commitment to sustainable tourism and community development, demonstrating how a small contribution from each guest can collectively make a significant impact on the lives of those who shape the unique cultural experience of Atiu.
