Under 16 College Sevens Tournament organiser Ben Koteka and Cook Islands Tourism CEO Halatoa Fua.

The Under 16 College Rugby 7s Tournament in Rarotonga (boys & girls) is a family friendly & smoke free tournament promoting sport, culture, community & environment.

The inaugural U16 College Rugby 7s Tournament was held on 7-8 December 2018. Overall, it was a success with a total of 10 teams participating. This included 3 teams from New Zealand and teams from Araura College (Aitutaki ) and Atiu College.

The partnership with Cook Islands Tourism will allow the 2020 U16 College Rugby 7s Tournament to be promoted at the prestigious YouthTown Condor 7s in Auckland later this year. Cook Islands Tourism will also support this year's edition of the tournament across the local tourism industry and through social media channels.

"We see our Under 16 College 7s Tournament as bridging the gap and filling the void between the current U15 Condors and U18 World Schools age group tournaments that we attend in Auckland, New Zealand each year." said tournament organiser Ben Koteka.

"With Rugby 7s now an Olympic sport and the ongoing success of our Pacific neighbours like Fiji, Samoa…..etc we need to develop our very own youth tournament at home that will feed upwards into our national senior teams (mens & womens). So by using the overseas Condor 7s platform (to promote 12 months prior) we are confident that our U16 College 7s Tournament has the potential to grow into a quality tournament." Koteka added.

The 2019 Under 16 College Rugby 7s Tournament will run from 6-7 December on Rarotonga, with promotion for the 2020 tournament beginning at the 33rd YouthTown Condor 7s in Auckland later this year.
